Item Description
1.25" with back paper naming the "S.B. Co Of Newark" and also with name of a Brooklyn jobber "The Harry Fisher Nov. Co." Pictured on the front is Mac Levy. He is striking a strong-man pose and rim reads "Mac Levy Open Air Gymnasium Arverne L.I." He was a pioneer in physical culture and by 1897 had both summer gymnasiums at Bath Beach and a winter gym in the Hotel St. George, both in Brooklyn. He trained boxers as well as vaudeville performers. This button would date from about 1914 when he moved his physical culture school to Long Island. Only the second or third we've seen. A pinpoint dot at left was dirt now removed and the button is Essentially Mint.
