Item Description
3.5x6-5/8x1.75" deep specimen contains the complete fossilized remains of 4" long Actinocrinites gibsoni crinoid, an aquatic plant that is also known as a sea lilly. Crinoids still thrive in modern seas, whereas this specimen dates to the Mississippian Period (358.9 to 323.2 million years ago), a period of marine ingression in the Northern Hemisphere in which only areas of modern Scadinavia/Russia and Canada stood above sea level. The crinoid example we are offering was unearthed in Ohio and is wonderfully preserved, w/both the crown and stem present, the stem being bent as fossilized. Plate has some museum grade reinforcement added to the reverse and both top and bottom of plate have flat surface for upright display (though smaller top is slightly less stable). From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
