Item Description
10.25x16.75" one-sided glossy paper sheet issued in 1931 to promote Ovaltine voting contest. Idea was for person to vote for either Annie's or Joe's Ovaltine recipe and in turn person would be sent a full color celluloid button featuring portrait image of the person they voted for. Illustration at top is of Annie and Joe with their versions of Ovaltine drink plus Sandy and directly below are their recipes. Annie's recipe includes ice while Joe's includes ice cream. At lower left are example images of the two buttons. Lower right has 3x4" clip where voting coupon was removed. From the first year Ovaltine issued radio premiums and probably the second premium issued (sheet music is considered the first). Has original fold lines and one of these has .5" fold split at top margin. At sheet bottom around Annie button design are a number of gray spots 1/8" to .25" dia. but image itself is not affected. Also at bottom margin is faint inked name. Overall appearance is still quite clean with great color. Fine. One of only three we've seen. Comes with both 3x5" cards, one for Annie with button and one for Joe with button. Cards have some tanning along bottom with small .25" dia. puncture on Annie's card but text is intact except for first two letters of "Drink." Both buttons have great color and high gloss. Joe has tiny trace of gray under the cello as printed just above his name and by last letter of his name. This barely shows. Annie is NM displaying Mint. Exceedingly rare grouping complete except for the clipped coupon.
