Item Description
The Lone Ranger began on Detroit radio station WXYZ in January, 1933. At first the station sponsored the program but by the next year the program was also being heard in Chicago and New York sponsored by Silvercup Bread. These are the first two badges issued to listeners who became members of the club. First is 15/16" with heavy dark blue enamel paint on a silvered brass badge. Text reads "Lone Ranger Safety Scout/Silvercup" and shows him riding Silver directly towards the viewer, as also pictured on the next item. Right background has tiny 1/16" flake of enamel paint off that barely shows. Rest is NM displaying Mint. After becoming a member children would recruit their friends and work their way up through a series of five degrees to reach the top rank of "Chief Scout" as specified on the red panel across the top of this badge with a center incorporating the basic member design but enlarged and accented by an eagle and wreath to achieve a size of 1.75" tall. This badge has a 1/8" and .25" pair of small areas on far right without luster but overall 95% of the badge on both the front and back has Essentially Mint luster. This badge is quite scarce as many members had to be recruited to earn it. Also in this section see items found in the WXYZ station achieve #1322 and #1328-1333. Robert M. Overstreet Collection. Comes with COA.
