Item numbers 1145 through 2874 in auction 209
Item Description
Numerous variations exist for this kit and its various pieces (this lot consists of 10 items and is complete as issued). All items in this lot are from the first year/first issue of the club, 1942. The only discrepancy is the mailing env. which is referred to as 1943 issue in the Hake guide, but we now believe it was used in 1942 as well. Env. has lt. wear, Fine. The metal badge is 1.5" tall and version w/large style lettering (see small letter variant #2423) and bar pin on reverse. The badge is reported to have only been offered for two months and then replaced with a fabric patch (see item #2422) because of wartime metal restrictions. Small traces of wear but nice luster remains, VF. Club letter is variant that mentions the badge. Has facsimile signature of Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) secretary. 8.5x11" certificate is variant that mentions (in all caps) "Americans/Democracy." Has 13 DC character images including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern. Unsigned. 4" dia. cardboard decoder is variant w/names matching the characters shown on the certificate. The remaining "War" related material includes: three M.C. Gaines items- "Youth And The War Effort" brochure, "The Minute Man Answers The Call" four page comic book (both are ©1942 versions) and "School Defensive Clubs For Victory" letter along w/"Defense Stamp Album" and small "Keep 'Em Flying" sticker. All paper items are in choice Exc/NM condition. A complete, high grade example of one of the best club kits ever issued. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
