Item Description
The standard size bobbing head set is one of the most classic 1964 Beatles items. However, many collectors are unaware or have never seen in person this tremendous set which is identical in design but towers over those bobbers as each of these are 14" to 15" tall. They were produced in very limited quantities and only available to retailers for use as store display models. These incredibly detailed painted composition figures have each Beatle's facsimile signature decal on the front of respective figure's base. Underside of each has "©1964 Car Mascots Inc." ink stamp and all four have complete "Made In Japan Car Mascot Inc. Los Angeles 28 Calif. USA." 1-1/8" dia. labels. Figures have some scattered professional restoration and some minor defects, which are noted as follows - John has professionally replaced guitar head and 1x1-1/8" area below his left ear that has been professionally replaced. Chin has 1" hairline crack. Base has some scattered flaking to gold areas, but name decal remains complete. Base has 1-3/8" streak of glue above name. Fine overall. Paul has professionally replaced guitar head and minor paint touch-ups to rear of left shoulder. Gold-colored base has some age toning but name decal remains complete. Face has lighter color to some areas due to uneven varnish application at time of manufacture. Fine/VF. Ringo has had one wooden drumstick re-attached at right hand and has minor scattered professional paint touch-ups. Base has some scattered flaking to gold areas (mainly at corners), but name decal remains complete. Face has lighter color to some areas due to uneven varnish application at time of manufacture. Fine. George has 1x1.75" area below his right ear that has been professionally replaced. Tip of nose has small scuff. Base has some aging on bottom front and name decal has some tiny edge flakes, though name remains complete. Fine/VF. Despite the noted defects and noted restoration, still an impressive set for display. One of the most sought after Beatles items, a must have for any serious collector. While these are incredibly rare, both individually and as a set, we have been fortunate to offer two other sets. The first, which was in higher grade, was offered in 2011 and sold for a record price of $33,674. We offered another set in our last auction (in lesser condition than the one we are offering now), that sold for $14,950.
