Item Description
Pair of original scripts for "Legends Of The Superheroes," an umbrella title for two live-action TV specials produced by Hanna–Barbera that aired on NBC in Jan., 1979 that were produced like standard variety shows of the time. Loosely based on Hanna-Barbera's "Super Friends" cartoon show, (then airing on Saturday mornings on ABC), the specials starred Adam West and Burt Ward, reprising their roles as Batman and Robin. The show also had a large ensemble cast of other DC Comics superheroes that included Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Hawkman, The Huntress, The Flash, The Atom and Black Canary. Superman and Wonder Woman did not appear on the show because both of those characters were already being used elsewhere - Superman had his own movie franchise, and Wonder Woman had her own live-action TV series. In the first episode, the Justice League of America unites to celebrate elderly retired superhero Scarlet Cyclone's birthday. The party is interrupted by the Legion of Doom (Frank Gorshin as The Riddler, Weather Wizard, Sinestro, Mordru, Dr. Sivana, Giganta and Solomon Grundy). Script for this episode has some handling wear w/.25" tear along upper right margin and 3.5" crease at upper right corner. VF/Exc. The second episode was a celebrity roast of the superheroes hosted by Ed McMahon. All of the major characters return. New characters included Ghetto Man, an African-American superhero who performs a stand-up comedy routine; Aunt Minerva, the Captain Marvel villainess who seeks a sixth husband from among the male superheroes; Rhoda Rooter, an entertainment reporter who snags an exclusive interview w/The Atom and Giganta on their engagement; and Hawkman's mother. Script has inked name at upper left corner of front cover but is o/w Exc.
