Item Description
6-3/8" long pipe w/3.25" long hand-carved Briar Bowl. Made in France during the 1940s. Slightly stylized carving w/black paint accents to mustache, eyebrows and hair, pipe is marked "Gruyere Garantie" in small stamped text at top of carving by pipe stem. Pipe appears unused and Exc. Comes w/1.5x2-3/8" tall by 1" thick British-made, celluloid-covered metal designed to hold a box of matches. Front shows hand w/fingers labeled "China, Britain, America, Russia, Free French" squeezing Hitler's neck. The one side panel of the piece reads "The Greatest Enemy In History Against Humanity Is At Last In The Allies Grip." The back of the piece has verse "Mussolini's Note To Adolf - Why Oh! Why, Must I Die, All Through You, Oh! The Pity Of It All. - With One Sharp Twist Of That Wrist, We'll Both Be Through - I'm Sure We're Heading For A Fall. - Yours Broken-Heartedly, Mussolini." Moderate scattered lt. wear, w/a few tiny nick to cello on one edge. Fine overall. Interesting Anti-Axis item from Britain.
