Item Description
The figural lamp base is solid painted plaster and depicts Cecil coming up out of the water. 10" tall to the top of Cecil's head, 13" tall to the top of the bulb socket. Made by the Alert Lamp Company of Ocean Park, CA. 1951. Complete w/7.5" tall stiff paper shade w/great wrap-around character illustrations of Beany, Capt. Huffenpuff, Dishonest John, Wong and Hunny Bear. ©Bob Clampett and is marked "Alert Lamp Co." Original power cord has never been unwrapped, but lamp does work. Lamp shade has three small areas of surface paper lift, but only to white bkg. so not too distracting. Lampshade remains clean and still displays Exc. Lamp itself is in choice, Mint condition and looks like it was just made. From the estate of the original maker, lamp comes w/original cardboard tag w/color images of Beany. Edges shows some aging but VF/Exc. overall. This is the first example of this tag we have seen in our 47 years. Also comes w/three 8x10" glossy bw promo photos made from the originals that were in the ad file, showing store displays of these lamps. Very rare, we have sold only a few examples in our 47 years (selling for as much as $1,100) and none were in this high grade condition or had the original tag.
