Item Description
2" tall in brass with a removable secret compartment brass cover on the reverse. This rare decoder was issued by radio sponsor Lava soap in 1939. Pictured is a ship's helm with large wing displayed across the top showing raised initials of the club name. The ship's wheel has seven small cut out windows through which alphabet letters are displayed. There is also a single window lower center which displays a couple of different numerals. Depending on which numeral is positioned in the window one of at least four different code words appears in the above cut out windows. These words are: Airways, Rockets, Seaways, Typhoon. Decoder was used in conjunction with the club manual and messages sent to club members via the radio broadcast. Loss of luster from lower edge of wing at left. Small marks on the luster if viewed closely. About 95% luster remains. Rare.
