Item Description
18.25x26" frame contains poster for Aug. 19-28, 1982 performances of "Really Rosie," a musical w/book and lyrics by Maurice Sendak and music by Carole King. The performances took place at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, NH. and starred former "Annie" star Bridget Walsh. The musical was produced by the American Children's Theatre and is based on Sendak's books "Chicken Soup With Rice, Pierre, One Was Johnny, Alligators All Around" (which compose 1962's "The Nutshell Library"), and "The Sign On Rosie's Door." Sendak based the story on a little girl who used to sing and dance on the stoop of her building, whom he observed while he was a little boy growing up in Brooklyn. Poster features Sendak's art and shows Rosie in over-sized clothing w/her hand on a diminutive chef who wears an apron that reads "Chicken Soup!", an obvious reference to Sendak's "Chicken Soup With Rice" book as chef is the main character from that book. Poster has been professionally matted and is Exc. Rare.
