Item Description
8.5" tall award w/2.5" tall plastic base and attached 6" tall gold-painted cast metal statuette w/soldered wire tail. Statuette is of classic 1940s style Mickey Mouse and is similar to Disney in-house awards of that time. Thick plastic base has brass nameplate w/"Disneyland Big Band Festival - To Benny Goodman Gratefully - Walt Disney" text. "Walt Disney" name is facsimile of Walt's distinct signature. We believe this award was presented to legendary Big Band leader Goodman in 1961 after the first Disneyland Big Band Festival at the Plaza Garden in Disneyland. Goodman enjoyed a long relationship w/the Walt Disney Company, having contributed two musical sequences for the 1946 Disney animated musical feature "Make Mine Music." Pair of 1/8" scuffs to gold paint by Mickey's eyes and brass nameplate shows some tarnishing/aging. VF overall. Very rare, one of only a handful known, this being the only example ever to be sold at auction.
