Item Description
Pyrite, or Iron Pyrite (also known as "Fool's Gold"), is an iron sulfide w/a metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue that gives it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of "Fool's Gold." Pyrite is the most common of the sulfide minerals. Pyrite is usually found associated w/other sulfides or oxides in quartz veins, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock, as well as in coal beds and as a replacement mineral in fossils. Despite being nicknamed "Fool's Gold," pyrite is sometimes found in association w/small quantities of true gold. We are offering a 5x6.5x4" tall solid Pyrite specimen weighing nearly 10.5 lbs. This specimen features two distinct Pyrite crystal faces, the largest measuring 3.75x5.25" across while the other measures 2x2.75". These crystal faces both feature brilliant, lustrous shine. Wonderful display.
