Item Description
Many consider the twenty-dollar gold piece designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens to be the most beautiful U.S. Coin. The first coins issued were slightly more than 12,000 high relief pieces struck for general circulation. The relief on the later issues, such as this 1908 specimen, is much higher. This particular specimen is known as the "No Motto" variety which means that the motto "In God We Trust" is not found wrapped around the rising sun portion of the coin found on the obverse. The motto was added the same year and continued on the remainder of the design run through 1933.
