Item Description
Sizes are 7/8" to 1.5". Largest button is a gorgeous 1.5" promoting "Buster Brown Bread" and showing Buster with a freshly inked sign on the side of a fence reading "Resolved That The Bre(a)d People Eat Buster Brown Bread." Tige stands at the side. Complete with early back paper c.1910 by Long Co., Chicago. Reverse has trivial 1/16" cello split by the collet but the front remains Exc. with just a 1/16" scratch on the bottom edge. Next is the earliest Buster Brown Shoe button that we know of. Probably issued c.1905 just after Richard Outcault sold the rights to the character to the shoe company. This also has its back paper. Next are four different "Blue Ribbon Shoes" buttons. These all have shoe company back papers but with some damage. The buttons however are all NM except for the last in that row which has a few age dots at the top. In the bottom row are five choice color buttons all with the slogan "You Can't 'Buster Brown' Hose Supporter." All five of these have W&H papers and all are NM displaying Mint. An exceptional group of early pieces. See following lot.
