Item Description
Sizes range from 5/8" "United States Navy" brass pin in row five to 2.25" "U.S.S. Kearsarge" button in row six. Group leads off with a brass pin-back showing the ship and reading "U.S.S. Wyoming Grand Ball April 30, 1913." Next is WWI era button showing a ship on the water but also showing pair of streetcars in tunnels beneath the water. Almost certainly a New York City issue. The following four items are also from WWI era. The first item in row two is a fob reading "Homeward Bound From France Aboard The U.S.S. Huntington 1919." Reverse reads "In Memory Of The Victory For World Democracy Nov. 11 1918." Next come five Australian buttons depicting ships or referencing the Navy. Row three starts with very early "U.S.S. Airplane Carrier Saratoga" this has some age dots on the rim and a couple of hairline craze marks at the center but is certainly a rarity. Other early items in that row reference Vallejo California and a "Welcome Pacific Fleet" 1919 button from Oakland. Row four and row five are largely from the WWII era. Second in row five has craze lines but the rest are extremely clean and include two buttons from "Bendix" and rare button from the New York Navy yard. Except as noted vast majority are Exc. to Mint. A long time and extensive collection.
