Auction #211 - Part II
Item numbers 1197 through 2870 in auction 211
Item Description
Three of these relate to Johann Petursson, known as the "Viking Giant." He began his US career with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1948 and that is the era of this earliest ring sold by him as a souvenir. It is white metal with a 1.5" opening. Large oval top reads "Tallest (the word is somewhat indistinct due to the metal casting) Man Johann Petursson On Earth." Ring is NM as made and the scarcest of the several he issued. Next is another with his initials "JP." This is bright brass luster over white metal. Nearly all luster remains intact. 1-3/8" opening. Next is plastic with a rectangular sheet on the top that includes his picture, name, country of origin "Iceland" and title "Tallest Man On Earth." Slightest bit of brown tone mixed in the cream background. This one would be c.late 1950s. Last is a 1.25" "Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus/Madison Square Garden" button picturing a clown with somewhat worn yellow ribbon holding a white metal ring with oval top "Tallest Man/Ted Evans/On Earth." Ring and button are Exc. and display Mint.
