Item Description
Large 1.5" white metal holed as made on thick planchet. Listed in DeWitt-Sullivan as 1860-10. DeWitt noted "This piece was produced by the Childs Company of Chicago. The obverse die is the same as that used on #AL1860-1, but in a more finished style. The bust was based upon the profile photograph of Lincoln made by Alexander Hesler in Chicago on February 28, 1857. This piece must have been struck early in the campaign, probably right after the Republican Convention in Chicago." Obverse has inscription "Abraham Lincoln." Bust of Lincoln to right with "1860" below. Reverse top has a scroll inscribed "Progress"; center, a scene depicting Lincoln with a helper splitting rails, at right is the sun rising above a cabin and an unfinished rail fence and at left is the White House; below, "1860." Much luster and overall Exc.
