Auction #211 - Part II
Item numbers 1197 through 2870 in auction 211
Item Description
5-7/16x7-7/16" glossy bw silver gelatin/silver bromide photo by noted fashion and portrait photographer Richard Avedon (1923–2004), known for his photos of 1960s music personalities. Photo shows full figure image of Bob Dylan and was taken in New York City's Central Park on Feb. 10, 1965. This was shortly before Dylan's controversial electric performance at the Newport Folk Festival. Reverse bears artist stamp reading "Photo: Richard Avedon - Copyright Do Not Reprint - Return To Archive - Bob Dylan - Copyright 1965." In the 1960s, Avedon had not yet entered the photographic art market, and it is well known that Avedon did not engage in selling his photos either himself or through galleries until the Marlborough Gallery show in Sept.-Oct., 1975. Extreme margins of photo have some aging and lt. corner tip wear, but main photo image remains Exc.
