"THE REALIST" SATIRE MAGAZINE WITH WALLY WOOD DISNEYLAND MEMORIAL ORGY SCENE.
Item Description
7-7/8x10-7/8" newsprint publication w/24 pages. Issue No. 74, published May, 1967. "The Realist" was a pioneering magazine of social-political-religious criticism and satire, intended as an adult version of "Mad" magazine and Lyle Stuart's anti-censorship monthly "The Independent." Edited and published by Paul Krassner, and often regarded as a milestone in the American underground of countercultural press of the mid-20th century, it was a nationally-distributed newsstand publication as early as 1959. Publication ceased in 2001. Issue has various editorials and cartoons as well as one photo image w/minor female nudity. Centerfold contains Disneyland Memorial Orgy scene, illustrated by comic artist Wally Wood. Art includes Disney characters engaged in various sexual acts along w/other perverse and drug-related activities. Characters pictured include Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, Three Pigs, Cinderella, Alice, Dumbo, Lady and The Tramp, plus characters from Peter Pan, Fantasia, others. Scenes include Tinker Bell as a stripper, Pluto urinating on a picture of Mickey, Minnie as a prostitute w/Goofy, Mickey doing drugs, etc. It quickly became the highlight of the magazine, proving so successful that Krassner printed it as a poster that was widely pirated, being sold in headshops across the country. As first printed here, original image was in bw and third page notes it could be ordered as a bw poster for $1. Back had Mickey Mouse image w/anti-religious text. Issue has some handling wear/aging w/scattered moisture spattering to top left of front cover. Printed mailing address and some inking on top of back. Fine overall. While we have offered a color version of the poster in the past, this is the first time we have offered this publication.
