Item Description
14.25x22.5" thin cardboard poster for May 13, 1972 game which was The New York Fillies first game, facing off against The Midwest Cowgirls. All were part of Sid Friedman's Women's Professional Football League, playing four games before being disbanded. Approximately 100 women turned out for New York Fillies' tryouts in Feb./March 1972. Poster features a football helmet design w/candid bw photo images of the team's players. Partial text reads "1972 Squad - Opening Game! The New York Fillies - New York's First All-Girl Professional Football Team Vs. The Midwest Cowgirls." Poster goes on to list next three games, against the Midwest Cowgirls again as well as The Pittsburgh Powderkegs and The Detroit Fillies. Poster has staple holes at each corner and some handling creases but remains bright and glossy and still displays VF. Rare item for an obscure professional sports league.
