Item Description
8.5x21.75" glossy paper retailer's store sign promoting contest designed to promote its 1970 "U.S. Navy Sealab III" model kit, which depicted the underwater laboratory and came w/two scuba-diver figures w/half the exterior in clear plastic to show the interior. Sealab was an experimental underwater habitat developed by the US Navy in the 1960s to prove the viability of saturation diving and humans living in isolation for extended periods of time. The knowledge gained helped advance the science of deep sea diving/rescue, and contributed to the understanding of the psychological/physiological endurance of humans. This contest was entered by sending in a box end along w/an "I'd Like To Live For Two Weeks On The Ocean Floor In Sealab III Because..." essay. Winners received Voit water ski and scuba equipment. The sign featured the same art that was used for the model kit box art. Sign has some lt. scattered margin wear but remains bright and glossy. VF/Exc. Scarce promotional piece.
