Pair of animated storybooks. First is 7x8.75" spiral-bound "The Wizard Of Oz" hardcover published by Saalfield, ©1944 Duenewald Printing Corp. Art by Julian Wehr. Front cover art depicts Wizard on throne w/Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion in foreground. Contains 10 traditional story pages interspersed w/five double-thick colorful die-cut animation scenes moved by paper tabs at bottom corners. Some animations include Scarecrow bowing and removing hat, Tin Man being oiled, Lion wiping away tears, Wizard filling Scarecrow's head w/bran. Pages have lt. aging but all are intact and clean. Book is Exc. overall. Dust jacket has some handling wear w/small tears to/across spine. Fine. Second book is 8.25x8-7/8" spiral-bound "Popeye And The Pirates Animated!" hardcover printed by Duenewald Printing Corp., ©1945 KFS. Bottom cover text reads "Illustrated By Sagendorf/Animated By Julian Wehr." 24 pages of story text plus large illustration in color on almost every page. Four pages are double-ply paper die-cut and assembled to form an animated picture image by movement of a slotted corner tab. Mechanical pictures are each choice full color and each performs a very effective animation. Inside cover has color illustration of island w/Popeye w/unused dotted line for book owner's name. Cover has trace of dust and corner tip wear but o/w clean and VF. A few pages have some corner creases and a few marks from aged pull tabs, but o/w VF.
