8.5x11" w/stiff paper cover and 44 pages on coated paper. Cover depicts c. 1940 lift-top TV set w/"Television's First Year" title on celluloid sheet representing TV screen w/NBC "Flight Research" plane flying over Manhattan. Book is a complete summary of the first year of NBC public broadcasts beginning w/Franklin D. Roosevelt's New York World's Fair April 30, 1939 opening speech through April 30, 1940 telecast from station WXBS atop the Empire State Tower to an estimated audience of 15,000 persons. Book is filled w/historic TV-related photos, a short history of TV and sections on the first year's telecasts in news, sports, public service, drama, original features, opera, variety and religion. A schedule card is shown along w/opinion survey response card. Two pages list six columns of artists, singers, actors, etc. appearing during the year. Last page lists 85 national and local advertisers. Produced as a historic record as well as intended for "Those Interested In Its TV's Commercial Possibilities How It May Become A New And Useful Tool In The Conduct Of Their Business." Comes w/three vintage 4x5" bw glossy photos of TV screen images, one of which is an RCA test pattern. Center staples of book show rust, front cover has .5" stress tear at spine by top staple, back cover has scattered aging. VF. Only example we've seen. Historic.
