Item Description
6x9x2" deep sturdy cardboard and wooden box w/hinged lid contains complete set by The Chad Valley Co. Ltd., England. 1930s. Box has green paper covering w/illustrated paper label on lid depicting one of the scenes found on the puzzle blocks of Mickey and Minnie Mouse w/Pluto. Label has lt. even aging and some wear w/rippling along right margin. Fine. Rest of box has moderate edge wear w/traces of cardboard/wood underneath showing. VG. Set consists of 15 wood blocks, each 1.5" square w/full color paper labels on all sides. Blocks form a total of six different scenes. In addition to the puzzle scene shown on lid, the other five are - Mickey Mouse leaving music shop carrying "How To Play The Piccolo" book w/large upright bass strapped to his back, Mickey showing frying pan to a hen as if asking for eggs, Mickey giving Minnie a flower, Mickey and Minnie in a row boat and Minnie holding a duck which bites Mickey's finger. All blocks have overall scattered trace of wear and aging to the paper labels including some spots of missing surface paper along edges and/or at corners. For the most part, the missing spots do not greatly affect any of the scenes w/notable missing surface paper being a sliver missing from Mickey's ear in scene w/chicken. By and large the images are not greatly affected and all still have great, strong color. Blocks are VG to Fine. A great and graphic set, only the second example we've seen. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
