Item Description
Lot of three for the Hopalong Cassidy-endorsed program to get children to open bank savings accounts, ran in both the US and Canada. 5x6.75" US issue (see previous item #2055) Christmas card w/typewritten address on front has Dec. 22, 1952 St. Louis, MO. postmark. Reverse has art of Hoppy decorating Christmas tree/seven pin-back buttons representing the savings achievement ranks from "Tenderfoot" to "Foreman" button at top. Text includes continued thrift practices in coming year to make parents and teachers proud. Scattered handling wear w/holes at right from pin that was attached. Fine/VF. Rare. Buttons distributed in both countries have the same designs, but the Canadian series is smaller in size. The US version of this button is 1-3/8" dia. while this Canadian version is 1-1/8" dia. litho and designates the lowest rank of "Tenderfoot." Scattered lt. wear but still glossy and VF. Much scarcer than the US version. Lot also comes w/the highest rank Canadian button, issued when account reached $500 balance. "Foreman" button w/gold foil. A beautiful Exc. example. While the US buttons are certainly scarce, the Canadian versions are rare. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
