Item Description
Each is celluloid over a metal frame with a cardboard reverse. Each has beveled front edges with four bordered in gold color and the smallest in silver. The smallest has a chain hanger on the reverse and the four larger have both a black cord hanger and an unused fold-out cardboard easel. The staples holding the largest three easels are rusted making small stains on the reverse cardboard surrounding the staple but the staples remain fully intact. The third and fourth largest also have a gold foil sticker reading "Manufactured By Permanent Sign And Display Company 1811 Center Ave. Reading, Pa." The sticker on the fourth largest has white age marks and the 3/8" wide back metal frame edges have rust stains on 50%. The celluloid fronts all have some surface wear in reflected light and we will specify any with more serious damage as we go along in size order smallest to largest. A. 7x9" showing Mary and Joseph with Jesus as a young boy. Minor widely scattered surface wear showing only in reflected light. Displays NM. B. 8x10" showing Monk with young Jesus standing upon an open bible. Cello has half dozen long vertical scratches that catch reflected light but otherwise show little. C. 8.25x10.5" showing Virgin Mary. An area at lower center of her blue cloak has scuff marks over an area about 1.25" wide by 2" tall although again just mostly catching reflected light. D. Monk holding young baby Jesus in his arms. Numerous hairline vertical scuffs across the top left corner but only to a depth of 1.75". These show in reflected light but otherwise are seen very little. Last and largest at 9.25x11.25" has scene titled "Regina Decor Carmeli/Ora Pro Nobis." The scene relates to devotion to Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel. Some scattered small age marks on the top and side frame edges with some small brown marks scattered along the very bottom edge. Widely scattered surface scratches show largely only in reflected light. While these are not in perfect condition they do display in close to Mint condition with small exceptions. These are remarkable celluloid pieces and the first such we have encountered in five decades. See the rather amazing largest item from this series as our following item.
