Item Description
37.75" long World War I era military saber w/matching metal scabbard comes in large 16.5x56.25x4-3/8" deep open wooden display case. Sword dates to the World War I era, it was used as a prop in the 1939 classic "Gone With The Wind." While the film was set during the Civil War, props were used that only had to look correct/similar. Blade has stamped "Carl Grasser" maker name and "Lw 14" notation w/Austria's small double-headed eagle coat of arms. Other side of blade (at base) has lightly etched "GWTW 17" initials/number. Handle is aged and hilt has dark patina. Blade is dull as issued but has been oiled and shows just lt. wear/aging. Fine overall. Scabbard has matching dark patina and some scattered lt. surface oxidation and wear. VG/Fine. Comes w/string tag and COA from noted prop dealer Hollywood Prop Supply stating this was used during filming of "Gone With The Wind" and came from the archives of MGM Studios.
