Item Description
Lot includes newspaper pages from Lancaster, PA. newspaper "Lancaster New Era" from 1925. One page has advertisement for the 1925 film starring Lon Chaney w/text reading "You Should See It At Least Once - Next Week!" and has additional article announcing contest for New Era reader to catch "The Phantom" as he leaves a trail of red clues around Lancaster. Also in lot is page featuring advertisement for serialization of Gaston Leroux's novel. Ad features male and female lead of the novel as well as image of terrified costume-wearing crowd. Sheets w/ads show moderate aging w/first sheet having horizontal creases and moderate edge chipping. Both pages are brittle w/age. Good-VG. Last items in lot are pages featuring the serialization, including page w/close-up photo image of film stars Norman Kerry and Mary Philbin. Another page features Chapter 2 and features photo image of film stars. Next page features photo image of Philbin at spinning wheel. Next page (which is heavily aged/worn) features Chapter 3 and features photo image of three of the film's stars. Next page features the end of Chapter 3 and starts Chapter 4 and features photo image of two smiling men from film. Last page features the end of Chapter 4 and starts Chapter 5 and features photo image of shadow of The Phantom playing violin. Newspaper pages are tanned w/age and have brittle edges and fold lines. Most have some degree of edge chipping and one page has half page tear at fold and is Fair. Rest are Good-Good/VG overall.
