4x7" walnut wood board that has been cut and precisely tooled to hold 3" dia. reverse-painted glass slide depicting tall ship at sea w/American flag flying from aft sails set against additional backing slide w/image of the ocean. Slide is encased in double brass frame, one of the frames being connected to metal handle that can be moved, giving the illusion of the ship moving up and down in the water. Handle can be locked in two different positions, one giving appearance of ship riding the waves w/other making ship look as if sinking. Top slide (w/handle) could be removed for use w/different slides. Wooden board has imprinted patent information including June 7, 1890 date. Scattered aging to brass frames and metal handle but VF overall. Wonderful design.
