9x13" book w/eight story pages and a flip-out page featuring nice illustration of clown pulling back illustrated circus tent to reveal monkey. When opened, large big top scene pops up, w/monkeys riding elephants, performing horse (including zebra), camel, clowns, monkeys, bear riding bicycle and performing dogs. Published by Bancroft & Co. Ltd. in London, ©1960 ARTIA Prague. Published in Czecholovakia. Book features art by Vojtech Kubasta, a Czech architect and artist who designed his first fairy tale pop-up book, "Little Red Riding Hood" in 1956. Kubasta offered this pop-up book to the Prague-based ARTIA publishing house (a state-owned foreign trade corporation) for publication. During the years that followed, Kubasta's three-dimensional books made him the publishing house's best-known book designer and illustrator, w/35 million copies sold.
