2x3.75x1/8" thick slice of meteorite, w/four sides polished, nicely revealing mineral make-up of meteorite (which includes a nickel content of 8.7%). Specimen has been polished and acid etched, revealing the classic Widmanstätten patterns (unique figures of long nickel-iron crystals) of intersecting lines of lamellar kamacite and taenite. Additionally, there is a .25x11/16" half-circular area or dark material along longest straight edge. This is a segment of a rounded graphite and troilite nodule commonly found in meteorites of this type. Uneven exterior edge (w/large scoop) reveals fusion crust due to the immense heat generated by entry into Earth's atmosphere. This specimen was obtained from a meteorite that fell in the Leoncio Prado District of the Ayacucho region of Peru's Lucanas Province in 1949.
