Item Description
Lot of three boxed figural soaps from the 1930s. First is 6-1/8x8.5x2" deep cardboard box w/illustrated lid w/Popeye on main lid panel saying "Well Blow Me Down Here I Yam In Soap" while smaller Popeye figure in his hands says "An' I Got Olive Oyl An' Wimpy Wit Me." All side panels of lid show illustrations of Popeye and friends. Castile soap designed by Lester Gaba by Kerk Guild, Inc. Box contains three figural soap figures of Popeye, Olive Oyl and Wimpy ranging in height from 4" to 5". Each has painted accents. Box has moderate aging and edge wear but remains structurally sound. Fine. Popeye is complete w/separate wooden pipe and original packing material. Soaps have aged as is typical and Popeye soap has some chips to feet. All remain structurally sound and display VF. Second is boxed 3.25" tall figural "Popeye Bath-Ball" soap in 3.75x3.75x3.75" cardboard box w/illustrated lid. Also designed by Gaba for Kerk Guild. Designed like Popeye's head w/rope molded into it. Head has a few paint accents including pipe. Soap has aged as is typical but remains structurally sound and Fine/VF Box shows wear to surface paper on box lid at corners. Fine. Last item is display box w/original cellophane window split that contains 4" tall full body figural soap of Popeye. Unmarked but likely also by Kerk Guild. Box shows moderate wear w/creases and 1" side tear. VG. Soap is aged but Fine overall.
