Item Description
This piece consists of a pair of slightly convex tin covers front and back with a rivet at the top which allows the front cover to swivel open. Our photos show the front of the piece closed, the front of the piece open, and the back of the piece open. The item is from 1904 with text both Portuguese and French. The item promotes a medical product for the mouth and throat. Text at the front top of the piece translates roughly to "Offering A Toast To The House Of Dalloz" while below is their address in Paris. Bottom edge has tiny text naming the printer "Alfred Riom-Nantez." Front of the piece is missing fairly numerous but exceedingly tiny 1/16" or smaller dots of the bright gold luster. Color overall remains roughly 98% intact. Some small dots of paint are off the reverse but again about 98% remains. Featured is a group of six vertical panels for each month from July 1904 through December. A column of numbers designates each day of the month and opposite this are names although we do not know in reference to what. When the front cover is slid to the top a 2-3/16" glass mirror is revealed with text "Glysero Dalloz/Neurasthenia/Tuberculose." The interior of the front cover has the beginning months of the year dated for January 1904 and continuing through June. Same format as the calendar on the reverse of the piece. Additional medical terms surround the calendar design. One edge has narrow 3/16" line of oxidation. A beautiful and rare piece with outstanding art nouveau design.
