Item Description
Cahoon’s Seed Sower was patented in the USA in 1861 and claimed to allow the distribution of seeds over 4 to 8 acres in an hour at a normal walking pace. A hand crank allowed for the scattering of seed in all directions. This marvelous 1.25” button depicts well dressed farmer in his field operating the device. Very tiny broken lines spiraling in all directions from the device strapped to his chest indicate flying seeds. Given the patent date, the button’s text which reads “Fifty Years Of Success” would indicate a date of 1911 for this button. In addition, button text reads “As Ye Sow/So Shall Ye Reap.” Button is without back paper which we believe is how it was issued as there is also the name of the maker on the curl which was Bastian Bros. Cello surface has about two dozen tiny indents on surface but mostly showing at a reflected light angle. Nearly all are 1/16" or smaller and none break the surface. While it is regrettable they are on the button, it still displays at least NM when viewed straight on. Only 5 seen in 5 decades. Rare. Sales have exceeded $1,000.00. A modest opening for one of the very best farm product advertising buttons.
