Item Description
1-13/16" tall with deep red enamel raised image of an early gas pump against a brass background. Reverse has slightly concave circle with text naming maker W&H. Sylvanus F. Bowser of Fort Wayne, Indiana took the first step towards safe gasoline sales in 1905 by adapting a kerosene pump he had designed years earlier into what was first named "Bowser's Self-Measuring Gasoline Storage Pump." His chief salesman Jack Gumpper, dubbed the device a "Filling Station." Brass is clean and enamel is perfect.
