Item Description
Sizes are 1.25" to 3.5". Group begins with button designed as a basketball and reading "Champions/Globetrotters Vs. All Stars." This button from early in their history has ribbon suspending highly domed embossed brass figural basketball. Second with team name has spring pin suspending 4.25" ribbon reading "Official Souvenir Program" and would have been worn by a vendor. Below this is a button of the same design but without the ribbon. This shows a few gray marks in our photo but that proved to be surface dust now totally removed. To the left of this is rare button picturing "Goose Tatum" and reading "Harlem Globetrotters." Tatum played Negro League Baseball before becoming a star with the Globetrotters. At one point he and Satchel Paige were team mates. He is considered to be the original "Clown Prince" and is credited with inventing the hook shoot. Button has two faint age dots on extreme outer edge that barely show. Center of our photo has a pair of 3" and 3.5" buttons c.1970s. Next is 1.25" reading "Trotters" with spring pin suspending two ribbons and figural basketball charm. Last are a pair in rwb again naming the team but in two different versions and with the bottom one having dusty ribbon as well as large gold plastic basketball charm. All items are Exc. to NM and display Mint except as noted. Best collection we've seen and numerous pieces we've not offered before. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
