Item Description
Each button is 7/8" with the first, third and fifth having back paper naming W&H as well as issuer "American Pepsin Gum Co." Fifth is lightly tanned. Buttons three and four have W&H papers. First two are in bw with Fitzsimmons just a little off center to the right. Reverse has barely seen 3/8" cello split along the collet. Next pair for them are in color. Last reads "Robt. Fitzsimmons, Champion Fighter Of The World." These were all issued slightly before or after their famous 1897 St. Patrick's Day fight in Carson City, Nevada, the first in an open-air arena ever erected specifically for a boxing match. Fitzsimmons won in the 14th. Buttons two and four have light tan tone on the background but are not spotted and all five have high gloss.
