These state seal buttons are common as a 7/8" give-away with back paper naming Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. These in the 1.25" size are very scarce. Each of these has back paper naming W&H and in a format used only 1896-1897. The states included are: California, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Vermont. New Jersey and New York have a .5" hairline cello split along the reverse collet. On the New Jersey button a tiny break on the bottom edge shows a trifle but otherwise all nine are exceptionally clean and glossy.
