Item Description
First is rare Canadian issued 7/8" button from the early 1930s with back paper reading "Made by Manitoba Stencil And Stamp Works Winnipeg." Front shows Mickey without a pie cut in his eyes and reads "Mickey Mouse Club Safety First." There is a large but barely seen hairline crack in the shape of a large letter "C" running from the upper right above the word "Club" over to the left and down through the text ending at the bottom edge between the bottom two words. This is seen in certain light angles but the button remains totally clean and glossy. Button was sold by Ted Hake to Maurice Sendak decades ago and it is the only example we know of. Second is exceptionally large and again exceptionally early with image of Mickey, before the studio more closely controlled the character's appearance circa 1930. This 1.75" button has curl text "L.A. Rubber Stamp Co." It has a matte finish so a name could be penciled beneath the word "Exhibitor." Rest of the text reads "Children's Pet Show/Crockett." Mint and again an early Sendak acquisition via Ted Hake. Only example known to us. From The Maurice Sendak Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
