Item Description
Large 2.5" button with metal back and bar pin. Button has faint age marks on the white outer rim but they are not dark and the colors remain brilliant with full gloss on the button. Image of Abner has "Al Capp" facsimile signature on the shoulder along with "©UFS." Bold text reads "Li'l Abner Salutes/Grand Rapids Jaycees/Turnip 'N Tater Time/Sept. 14-15-16." Agricultural festivals were once prominent in many towns and this Minnesota event was typical. In 1951 Al Capp designed a new label for the local Arrowhead cannery products and so he attended this festival in person. The label which Capp designed shows Mammy with a steaming plate of "Li'l Abner's Diced Rutabagas (yellow turnips)" A rare local issue and the only example we've seen.
