Item Description
In 1940 DC Comics ran a Superman contest promoted in Superman and Action Comics and 1600 of these rings were used as prizes. Only slightly more than a dozen of these rings are known to have survived until today. Ring base is adjustable silvered brass with pair of lightning bolts on one side and a planet design on the other side. The silvering on this portion of the ring is near 100% complete. When ring is viewed, looking at the opening for the finger, there is a small bend at mid-point of the right prong and some very small bends in the metal where the two prongs overlap. These are extremely tiny and minor. Viewed from top of ring or from either left or right sides, these trivial bends are not visible. Top of ring has a brass disk with image of Superman breaking a chain. Surrounding inscription reads "Supermen Of America/Member." Background of inscription area originally had dark red spray-misted paint and this red is the first thing to wear on these rings. This ring has none of the red color remaining with minor exception of the few very slightest traces down in some of the deep grooves and visible only under strong magnification. Other than that, brass disk is totally bright and clean, with nice brass coloration. Although missing the important red paint, the appearance otherwise to the naked eye from most angles is a ring with essentially Mint condition of the brass and silver metallic finishes.
