Item Description
Original mailing envelope contains four-page typed press releases w/various facts about celebrated African-American theater organist, pianist, and choral conductor Graham Jackson, who became a personal friend of Eleanor and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and had played command performances in Washington numerous times. He was present in Warm Springs, GA. when Roosevelt died in April 1945. Jackson became a national icon when Ed Clark, a "Life" magazine photographer, captured a photo of a tearful Jackson, accordion in hand, playing "Goin' Home" as Roosevelt's funeral train left Warm Springs. Kit also includes large 22x35" poster w/several photo images of Jackson, including him playing for FDR. Poster served as an advertisement w/testimonials and Jackson's contact information. Folded as issued w/some lt. wear along fold lines. VF. Press release has heavy aging and is Fine. Kit also includes two photostats of a decree from the Governor of Georgia, making Jackson his "Official Entertainer." These show handling wear and are Fine. Envelope shows heavy and obvious wear and just comes along.
