Item Description
50x73". This unique campaign relic reads at top "The Difference Between Two Knights". At right Blaine is knelt begging before a standing figure who holds a scroll labeled "A History Of My Corrupt Schemes By JGB". Beneath is caption "Mr. Mulligan To Mr. Blaine 'Shall I Tell The Truth?'". At left is text "Tell The Truth" with image of Grover Cleveland looking on. During the 1870's Blaine dealt with charges of corruption most notably his association with a highly corrupt Arkansas railroad company. The "Mulligan Letters" were said to prove his guilt. Blaine was able to gain control of the letters before they became public record but this matter came back during the 1884 campaign and is the central theme of this banner. The satirization of Blaine's own "Plumed Knight" moniker is highly interesting. This is among the most interesting 1884 banner's we've been privileged to offer. Stains throughout but most noticeable at top right. Still an impressive and very likely unique display piece. VF.
