Item Description
7-3/8x20.5x4.5" tall hand-painted tin shooting arcade w/generic "Automatic Marx Cal. 45" plastic spring-loaded pellet gun attached to tapered front end. Produced by Marx as a prototype in 1960 as noted by "X6843 - 2-20-60 - Erie" label on underside, which also indicates this prototype was produced in Erie, PA. Playing field has all hand painted art on a Marx production arcade target game, featuring two policemen catching two crooks, one of which drops his gun. Four small revolving targets in wind-up "Peoples Bank" include different images of criminals. Scattered wear w/some flaking to paint, but Fine overall. Original Marx factory sample string tag around gun, w/handwritten "Tag 84 - 4/24/62 #6843 Arcade" note on back. Marx did produce a "Public Enemy No. 1" target set, but not in this style, the production toy's design/art/image differing significantly from this prototype. From the John Bowers Collection.
