Item Description
Original paper-covered cardboard box has illustrated lid label showing this toy made in England by Tri-Ang in 1936. Toy was invented by a famous English airplane designer and action depends on the well-known gyroscopic principle. Front wheel serves as the gyroscope and drives the unit through a set of precision gears. When the front wheel is spun at high speed, the stored energy will drive the cycle for a considerable distance in an upright position. Boy on the bike peddles in a very realistic manner by the turning of the rear wheel. The wheels are tin litho, the frame is pressed steel and cyclist is celluloid w/cloth arms. Cyclist is driven by a rubberband from the rear wheel, now missing. Comes w/sealed glass bottle of Shell Lubricating Oil. Wheels are aged but aside from this, rest of toy is bright, glossy and Exc. Box lid shows moderate wear to right side panel, which has paper covering loose. Lid has two corner splits. Box is Fine overall. Label edges are aged but o/w label is complete and Exc.
