Item Description
7.5x9.75x1.25" deep wooden box has nicely illustrated paper label on lid. Milton Bradley, patented May 30, 1882. Set contains 52 of 54 1.5x7" chromolithographed thin cardboard strips, missing 5.25x6.75" chromolithographed guide sheet. Lid label features great image of fireman rescuing child from fire and underside has illustrated instruction label. As noted by this label, "This Sectional Picture Represents A Complete Modern American Fire Department, Consisting Of Steamer, Hose Carriage, Chemical Engine, Insurance Patrol Team And Hook And Ladder Truck, On The Run To A Fire." Scenes were formed in a puzzle-like fashion. Label on underside indicates each completed image but text under equipment naming it, but that is not the case as produced. Two strips are missing, both are the first piece of a scene and image is just barely affected, no equipment images are missing. One strip has .75x1.5" piece missing off end and two of the strips have repairs to backs, one glued and one w/archival tape. Good/VG. Five pieces have some creasing while other strips show scattered lt. wear and aging and are Fine-VF overall. Almost all of the strips are present and make for a great display of this early set. Box lid is missing bottom side panel and label shows scattered wear w/corner foxing, chipping and two .5" flakes at upper right. Label is aged and has some rippling to surface as applied. VG overall.
