From 1863 to 1935, National Bank Notes were issued in many denominations by thousands of banks throughout the country and in U.S. territories during three charter periods. As of January 1, 1929 there were more than 7,600 National banks in existence. The chartering of banks and administrative control over the issuance of National Bank Notes were the responsibility of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. This example is a 1929 Type 1 $10 note from Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, and has a very low serial # of E000470A. Fine.
