Original illustrated cardboard box contains 5.5x6x3.5" tall tin litho wind-up toy w/built-in key by Marx. ©1940 Superman Inc. Box does not feature Superman graphics but is correct for this toy as noted by "Superman Rollover Plane" name printed on end panel. Box has had one inner flap replaced w/some scattered touch-ups and internal reinforcement added. Still displays VG. Scarce. This toy was issued w/different colored planes, this has primarily silver luster body while the other varieties are gold, red and blue. Plane is designed w/pilot figure and separate 3" tall figure of Superman is attached to the tail by a rod. Toy is designed to travel forward a short distance before the Superman figure flips the plane over 360 degrees and then repeats this cycle. Toy works and has scattered tiny traces of paint wear but remains glossy and displays VF overall. Scarce classic wind-up. Franco Toscanini Collection.
