Item Description
14x21-1/8" stiff cardboard rack topper produced in 1940 to promote eight original National (DC) Comics titles, including - "Superman, More Fun, Detective, Action, Batman, Adventure, Flash" and "All-American." Topper is dominated by large image of Superman from waist up in classic hands-on-hips pose. Word balloon reads "Comics Add To Kiddies' Christmas Cheer. Buy These Big Comics For Stocking Stuffers - Only 10¢ Each." For use w/wire rack, die-cut insert area at bottom center has display instructions text, indicating use at top. Corner w/"Action" Comics name has 1" corner of surface paper off and display has scattered surface paper wear (mainly in white area of word balloon) and scattered edge wear, but still displays nicely as is and these small issues could be restored if so desired. Very rare, one of just two known examples. An incredible display piece on its own that would be even further complimented if displayed in a vintage wire comic book rack as intended. Franco Toscanini Collection.
